I hope you are enjoying summer and have found a little time to enjoy the warm weather. Before you know it summer will be over and the fall rush will begin. So this is a good time to clean up, clean out, and think about a few tips to speed things along in the workroom. We're answering a few of your questions from the survey and adding a tip or two of our own.

Happy Sewing!

Quick Tips

Question:

Will Firm-a-Flex work on an Operable Door Valance:

I do not think so.  My testing showed me that Firm-a-Flex does not hold the small screws that hold the hinge in place.  I am not a fan of gluing piano hinge on a fibrous material.  You could use it in addition to the lumber required if you were doing a cornice with a detailed front.
 Tip:

It's always a struggle to stuff and zip up large foam bolsters- it's like wrasseling an alligator! You need 4 hands to do this simple step. To make it easier attach a 12" piece of shade cord through the little hole in the zipper pull and tie it in a loop.  You can now put two fingers into the loop instead of trying to grasp that little pull while squeezing the poof out of the bolster. ZZZZIIIPP! You're done.

Question:
Do you follow the floor or the top of the window frame when you put up draperies on a crooked window with a crooked floor?

The eyes can only look at one thing at a time- either they will be looking at the hemline on the floor or the top of the window.  I mount the rod so that it is parallel to the ceiling and everything looks nice at the top.

Tip:
Cutting can be tiring and hard on the wrists.  We love the chickadee cutter by Eastman. It makes quick work out of the miles and miles of cording that some jobs require.  It is a worthwhile investment.

Question:
Why are some DVD's indexed and some not?

The technology of indexing is new.  The first 6 DVD's were taped the old fashioned way so inserting index points is not an option.  All the new DVD's have an index so you can jump to the desired step.

There is an index on the DVD box that has the time sequence so you can adjust your cursor and jump close to your desired chapter if your DVD player has that function.
